The image of Jesus’ face on the Shroud of Turin gazes at and appeals to those who observe it. A careful, complex, and transdisciplinary analysis – historical, medical, psychological – compared with the Gospel narratives and the biblical context, allows us to grasp its human experience and message, and to question its spiritual and religious significance.
